Project Pan 2016

Project Pan 2016

Project Pan 2016

I consider myself the queen of throwing things away; you could call me very non-committal when it comes to products/ items. I wasn’t always like this, but I have a renewed sense of minimalism now that I have my own apartment that I like to keep clean. (You wouldn’t have thought this when I was 16 and had trails from my bed to the door in my room.)

If something doesn’t work for me, I get upset mostly for the waste of money. I hate wasting. In the past I held onto everything in hopes that it might workΒ someday, but that someday obviously never came and it ended up in the trash anyway. This year I have decided to attempt the project pan challenge mostly for products that I do like but I’ve completely forgotten over the years. If I don’t use them in at least six months, I am going to throw them away.

Eye Shadows

Project Pan 2016 Eyeshadows

Unknown Eye Shadow Palette

I bought this three years ago (I remember because it was for my Halloween costume) and it cost me a whopping $1.25. As you can tell, the palette is filled with golds of varying degrees… Considering the price it’s a really nice texture and the colour payoff is amazing. I’m kind of worried because it probably has lead or something in it… oh well.

Annabelle Custom Quad

I’m not sure when I bought this, nor how much it cost but it has been a while. Don’t ask me what my mindset was when I picked a gold, silver, copper and white shadow for this quad. I guess I really liked metallics at the time. I’m not a big fan of the way these shadows swatch, but we’ll give it a go.

Maybelline Perfect Pastels “Seashore Frost”

I received this as a gift from Shoppers in 2014, the blue shade is a lot like the pastel pantone colour of the year for 2016 so maybe if I go to a ‘colour of the year’ party I can make good use of this palette. I won’t feel too badly about throwing it out if I don’t use it though.

Estee Lauder Palette

I’m not sure if this palette has a name but I know I received it as a birthday present from my friend’s mum. I love the formula of the shadows and the payoff is also really nice plus the shades are pretty safe and wearable so perhaps I can give this a go (as well as the blush!)

Project Pan 2016 Eyeshadow Swatches

I absolutely hate swatching on my skin, even though it shows the product more clearly… but here’s some swatches of the eye shadows if you’re interested!

Project Pan 2016 Lippies

In case you can’t already tell, 99% of these products are from Rimmel!

Covergirl Outlast Lipstain in “420”

When these first came out I loved the idea because lipstick can wear off so quickly… I wore this a few times but never really stuck to it. I find it has dried up a bit too, so this might just end up as a toss.

Rimmel Lasting Finish Colour Rush in “Viva Violet”

This stuff smells like cotton candy, it’s such an addicting thing. I’m pretty sure I purchased this in 2015 at some point, but I just haven’t worn it as much as I would like… plus the colour is rather hit and miss for me (some days I love it, some days I hate it…)

Rimmel Apocalips Lip Lacquer in “Aurora”

I think I bought this in 2014. I love the colour of this, I hate how dry my lips get when I wear it. You have to have super hydrated lips to pull this off. Plus it smells kinda gross, but I will give it a go! I really do like the packaging- for branding I give it an A+

Rimmel Moisture Renew lipsticks in “Tulip Pink,” “Sweetheart Tulips,” and “Rose Passion”

When I dyed my hair hot pink I had the brilliant idea that I needed to match my hair to my lips and therefore I bought various shades of pink lipstick way back in 2012. Sweetheart tulips is the lightest of the bunch and I can definitely see myself finishing it, as for the other colours… we’ll see.

Project Pan 2016 Lip Swatches

[swatch game weak. These aren’t exactly true to shade, they’re lighter in person]

Face Products

Project Pan 2016 Face Products

Vichy ProEven BB Cream in ‘Light’

I absolutely LOVE this product; the reason why I haven’t finished it is because it got lost in my drawer! It’s probably expired because I bought it in 2014, but oh well…

Maybelline Baby Skin

Do you remember when this first debuted? Yeah. That’s when I purchased it, and it’sΒ stillΒ in the packaging. I don’t know whether I’ll like it, but I guess we’ll find out this year!

So there’s 12 products that I want to use up this year, I’ll be doing quarterly installments of my progress throughout 2016! Wish me luck πŸ˜‰

  • This is such an amazing idea and one that I seriously need to do too. Don’t mind me if I join you in this mission, Lindsey because I’m in dire need of using up TONS of my makeup.

    • lindseyelyse

Go for it Shireen! I have seen other beauty bloggers doing it as well, so I kind of hijacked the idea as well hehe. πŸ˜‰

    • I’m with you; I’m so doing this! Thanks for the inspiration girl! Xo

  • Kiki

Wow, this is such a cool project! You’re giving me ideas of ways to use my own makeup products…I wonder if I could make it a year without buying anything new! Probably haha. Great post!
    xo Kiki

    • lindseyelyse

You probably could! But new products are alllways so enticing haha

  • Maggie

Great idea! You should try them all out soon!

    • lindseyelyse

      Thanks Maggie

  • I might join you, as I am turning into a complete minimalist these days and either selling or binning now! xxx

    • lindseyelyse

Hehe! I can’t wait to read more about it πŸ™‚

  • I love this idea, such a great challenge to set yourself!

    • lindseyelyse

Glad you like it! Thanks for the comment, Anna πŸ™‚

  • Even though it is my resolution to actually finish more stuff, I have not dedicated special items to that purpose. I enjoy so much from my collection, I couldn’t choose colors to stick to.
But I have two lip products I have already used a good amount of, so maybe these two will be what I will focus on in 2016.

    • lindseyelyse

Lucky! I find that once I gather so much I forget about other things- which is why I really want to do this πŸ™‚
Lip products are always a great option!

  • I love this! Now that I’m getting older I think I prefer a more minimal lifestyle too. I used to want to have literally everything, but there isn’t enough space for it! And I don’t think I want more space either, because that means more things to clean up after hahaha…

This is a great idea – I’m also trying to hit pan on some products before buying new ones, and also clearing out the makeup I don’t use often. I used to buy makeup just for the sake of buying it and I kind of regret doing that!

    becky β™‘ star violet

    • lindseyelyse

Exactly! After a while it becomes pretty overwhelming for sure! Glad you’re making the shift too- there’s nothing more rewarding than finally hitting pan. πŸ™‚

  • Wow massive good luck! I am so awful at hitting pan as I chop and change my products all the time, but I wish I could as it’s so fulfilling haha xx

Gemma β™₯ | Miss Makeup Magpie

    • lindseyelyse

Thanks Gemma! Same! The only product I’ve ever hit pan on was a small eye shadow quad and face powder… so we’ll see how this goes!

  • I love how you showed these colors! They’re brilliant!

    • lindseyelyse

      Thanks Katie!

  • Angela

Gooooodd luck with it! I can’t do eyeshadows at all, but lip products are the easiest for me. And that’s great you are starting to be minimalistic. I am trying to make my way there, but I’m trying to use some of my older items up first!

    • lindseyelyse

Haha, thank you! I’m actually starting to really like eye shadows. It’s been harder for me to use lipsticks (especially most of these colours) recently because I have been really into the nude lip look… but we’ll see! Hopefully you can get through a good number of products this year too πŸ™‚

  • Sam

Great idea for a post! I want to use up some of my blushes because I have so many… Otherwise I’m pretty minimal in the eyeshadow department.

    Samantha Series

    • lindseyelyse

Oh man, I’m so bad at using blushes! Good luck haha!

  • This is a great idea, giving yourself a year instead of only 3 months to use something up seems far more doable! Good luck on finishing/finding a rediscovered favorite!

    • lindseyelyse

Thanks Sandie! Yes, I don’t think I could finish this much stuff in 3 months… and I do like to have ‘no makeup’ days so that would be practically impossible!

  • Haha! Great idea! Yeah I for one want minimal basic things now, my flat is def overloaded.

I need to cut down on sooo much! Going to wait until School is finished for me that way I don’t regret getting rid of things I might need! A ‘spring cleaning’ is definitely in order though! Thanks for the comment, Alyssa!

  • Ela

Good luck to you:) I definitely need to do that too, I just like buying and hardly using the products. I should pick up a few products which I hardly use and try to finish them.

    • lindseyelyse

Thank you! Haha, I think it’s what most people do- buy products only to use them very rarely!

  • I’m a queen of ‘giving-things-away’ haha!! Good luck in your progress dear Elyse x

    Real Life Nerd //

    • lindseyelyse

That’s probably a better thing to say! When there’s someone who’ll take it I’ll give it away lol! Thanks for the comment, Viviene πŸ™‚

  • I think I might have to give this a go because I’m awful for keeping make up just because I’ve spent the money on it even if it’s hidious on me and i’ll ever where it ! I really like the gold shades in the ” Unknown palette ” and I don’t like swatching on my skin either don’t worry hehe πŸ™‚ I used the baby skin primer for ages and really like using it, but my foundation didn’t last any longer for wearing it <3

    Lots of love, Marianne xxx

  • I really like those eye shadow palette and the shades looks so good. I love your blog and if you feel free, then check into my blog

  • I’ve never heard of project pan but what a great idea! I seriously need to do this! Best of luck to you with it! I know I would definitely struggle because I hate wasting as well!:)

    Shannon Sage

  • Such a great palette of eyeshadows xoox

  • great idea, good luck girly!!x

  • I hope you manage to hit pan on all of these soon, it seems to be taking me forever to reach pan on anything I own!

  • Lovely post. Love the idea of “Project Pan”!

    Enclothed Cognition

  • Awesome post. All those products look so pretty and wonderful. I love how you’ve done the swatching such a smart idea.

  • Good luck! I always love a good clean out! That gold eye shadow palette is awesome or should I say gold! πŸ˜‰

  • I have the same habit as you, I hate wasting money so when a product doesnt work for me I am determined to make it work, sometimes it works but most of the time it doesn’t! I should start throwing items out instead of hoarding them aha xx

  • What a wonderful idea! Thanks for sharing this! =)

  • Wishing you the best of luck in this project. Getting rid of/utilizing product is one of the most satisfying feelings. :]

  • I totally agree with you about minimalism! I am trying so hard to be mindful of my purchases and also getting rid of things that I don’t use. I swear I must have 5 tubes of mascara that I am “saving” but probably need to just toss LOL ew that felt gross writing it out!
    xo Annie

  • Love this idea! Thanks for the swatches πŸ™‚

    XOXO, Ashley

  • I love the Vichy BB cream, I think I need to re purchase it haha β™₯

  • This is such a genius project! I am very excited to see the progress πŸ™‚

    -Leta | The Nerdy Me

  • lovely post, best of luck on your project! .x

  • danielle

this is a really great idea, i’m terrible with using up products!

  • I’ve been really wanting to become less wasteful this year too! This is such a great way to meet both of our goals πŸ™‚ Thanks for sharing!

  • Love this idea! I have so many lippies I need to use or lose. Hugs, Kait

  • Oh please do you the Estee Lauder palette, the colours are absolutely gorgeous! Though I’m kind of worried of the unknown Eye Shadow Palette. $1.25 is too good, and I heard fakes usually feces and urine in them…SO BE CAREFUL.

    • lindseyelyse

OH MAN. Nooo….. I don’t think I can use it anymore, that’s such a gross thought! haha, ugh. Thanks for warning me though!

  • Good luck with project pan (and amazing pictures!!!!) Argh I really need to hit pan on my eyeshadow palettes too!

    • lindseyelyse

      Thank you, Whitney! πŸ˜€

  • Oh that’s so smart! I have been hoarding so many eyeshadows, and for me depotting actually helped me a lot as I sort of could see what was similar to what, throw out whatever I didn’t like/found something better.
Anyhow, that estee lauder palette looks so pretty! I LIKE IT πŸ™‚

    • lindseyelyse

Thanks! That’s a great idea- just keeping the ones you know you’ll use! It is really nice πŸ˜€

  • Pia

This is such a cool idea! I went through a nail polish phase in high school and really have to go through them (even though im 87% sure most are going to goopy grossness….). Anyway, I love this post!
    xx, Pia

    • lindseyelyse

Haha oh man, I think we all went through that phase… in fact I’m pretty sure most my ‘nail polish collection’ is dry… (who has time to paint their nails?!)

  • Ifunanya

I really need to get with this project, I buy things barely ever use them but never throw them away. I guess I’m a bit of a hoarder that way. Wishing you luck. I love your blog btw

    • lindseyelyse

      Thanks Hun! πŸ™‚

  • Such a great idea! we all need to go through makeup products and see what to do with them:) Thanks for sharing!

    Tamara xxx

  • loving those eyeshadow colors

  • Siffat Haider

Such a great idea – we all tend to hoard makeup a little bit. I actually may do the same with my makeup collection as I have tons of stuff that I haven’t used in years! Thanks for sharing, girl!

  • Good luck!! I need to do something like this!

  • Good luck finishing all of those off! I’ve made my own pile of products that I am hoping to make a dent in!

  • Oh, I am so in this boat with you! I recently chucked a bunch of lipsticks that I know I won’t wear again (mostly, too many bad nudes that just don’t look right) but I still have too much. So… I am also doing project pan. I am not allowed to buy any more makeup until I start panning eyeshadows, blushes, highlighters, lippies, and more. So good luck to you and I hope to relish in your success!
