Essential oils are a fantastic and natural way to add a nice scent into your home and target specific ailments such as a migraine, PMS or just a bad mood.

Aromatherapy: doTERRA Petal Diffuser

The doTERRA Petal Diffuser is my weapon of choice when it comes to aromatherapy – I was gifted this by my step-mum and use it consistently! You can easily mix essential oils into the water and have them diffused into the air for one hour, two hours or four hours. There’s also an LED light which you can choose to leave on or off. For the size of the diffuser the output is impressive. I can have it in the kitchen and smell it all the way into my living room.

Aromatherapy: Blends

 

I have a fairly small collection of essential oils – slowly but surely the collection is growing! Surprisingly, Winners and Homesense offer a great selection of essential oils.

The great thing about aromatherapy with essential oils, is that you can customize the scents according to what you enjoy! The only unfortunate thing about them is when you live with someone who has a very different sense of smell than yourself… (For example, my boyfriend hates Patchouli, where I’m rather indifferent to the scent.)

Aromatherapy my Personal Favourite Blends

Lavender + Rosemary

Clean and calming, Lavender and Rosemary are great for relieving stress and clearing the mind. The Lavender acts as a great base for the very upbeat Rosemary scent.

Eucalyptus + Lemon

When you’re feeling under the weather this is a great blend to help open up your sinuses. Now it’s not something I would use everyday… but great for days when you can’t put down the tissue box!

Lavender + Peppermint

Another calming and clarifying scent. To be honest, I absolutely adore the smell of Lavender so I tend to mix it with everything! I like to use this as a pick me up on Sundays/Saturdays when I have work to get done… but still want to relax, y’know?

Orange + Peppermint or Lemon + Peppermint

Love these scents for the kitchen! After a nice deep clean I like to put the diffuser on the counter and let it waft away any lingering smells.

Holiday Joy

My favourite holiday scent! It has a mix of Orange, Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Clove and Douglas Fir to create a warm and cozy atmosphere. You can guarantee that this will be my go-to scent up until Christmas.

I began using a diffuser for Aromatherapy in the Summer and it has quickly become my favourite source for adding scents into my home. The ease of use is fantastic – and you’re not stuck with one scent for more than a few hours. How great is that? Plus it comes with some great benefits.

Lavender is one of the most well-known and widely used essential oils which has a variety of uses other than aromatherapy. When used for aromatherapy it’s both great for calming (which is why it is in so many sleeping sprays) as well as stimulant to help clear the mind.

Blends well with: Lemon, Eucalyptus and Rosemary.

Rosemary is a great stimulant – instantly uplifting once it is inhaled. It keeps the mind alert and awake, which is why it is great in conjunction with Lavender as a base scent.

Blends well with: Lemon, Peppermint and Lavender.

Peppermint is also a great stimulant which can be helpful when you’re feeling stressed or tired. Like Rosemary, it can be helpful when you need to concentrate (essay writing anyone?)

Blends well with: Rosemary, Lemon, Lavender and Eucalyptus.

Orange will instantly improve your mood – this scent is uplifting, happy and warm. It has been shown to be a great anti-depressant.

Blends well with: Other citrus scents, Cinnamon, Cloves and Nutmeg

Eucalyptus will instantly clear your sinuses while being relaxing and calming. It’s no wonder this scent is in so many spa products. It’s also a scent that will help keep you awake, another great option for stressful days.

Blends well with: Lavender and Peppermint.
