What’s In My Makeup? Vichy ProEven BB Cream

Vichy proeven bb cream

Remember when the Western world started getting on the trend of BB creams way back when? Well, I’m still loving BB creams no matter what anyone says about them not being great because I found one that works for me and I don’t ever want to let it go. (In case you didn’t realize, this what’s in my makeup post might be a bit biased.)

Vichy ProEven BB Cream in ‘light’

I tried finding it online, but unfortunately I couldn’t– I did see it in stores so I know that it’s still available! It retails for about $30 CAD.

It is formulated with SPF 20 which isn’t high, so in the summer I do recommend to use extra sunscreen over top however, in the winter I find it sufficient. It’s paraben free and fragrance free which is nice because perfumed foundations/ bb creams are the bane of my existence.

Over the course of 4 weeks, Vichy claims that your skin will be evened out and your complexion will be brightened.

Vichy ProEven BB Cream

Does it live up to these claims?

Personally, I love this BB cream and after using it for a whole summer I noticed my skin was so much more improved. In case you’re a regular reader of my blog, you’ll know that this product is on my ‘project pan 2016’ list merely because I have yet to use the whole bottle. After the summer was over I just stopped using it because I thought using SPF was superfluous in the Winter (it’s not!)

If you have super dry skin I don’t recommend this product simply because it’s quite mattifying and can potentially become patchy overtop of dry areas. As well, they only have two shades (light and medium) so depending on your skin tone it may not be suitable.

Vichy ProEven BB Cream Swatch

What’s it made of?

The active ingredients are Titanium Dioxide and Octinoxate primarily for the SPF.
Cyclopentasiloxane (Silicone-based compound), Dimethicone (silicone based-polymer), Glycerin (Alcohol Compound), HDI/Trimethylol Hexyllactone Crosspolymer (Synthetic Polymer), PEG-10 Dimethicone (For Viscosity), Dimethicone/PEG-10/15 Crosspolymer (For Viscosity), Pentylene Glycol (Solvent and Preservative), Dimethicone/Polyglycerin-3 Crosspolymer (For Viscosity), Magnesium Sulfate (Inorganic Salt), Propylene Glycol (form of mineral oil), Bis-Diglyceryl Polyacyladipate-2 (Skin-Conditioning), Silica (Opacifying), Sodium Hyaluronate (Hyaluronic Acid Derivative), Aluminum Hydroxide (Colourant), Phenoxyethanol (Preservative), Disodium Stearoyl Glutamate (Skin-Conditioning), Ascorbyl Glucoside (Vitamin C with Glucose), Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Caprylyl Glycol (Humectant), Lactobacillus Ferment (Skin Conditioning)

There are lots of silicons in this product, which is probably what makes it so amazing when you have big pores and need them covered. Although a lot of these ingredients are generally rated 3 for toxicity on a scale of 1-10 so it’s not horrible for you. However, if you really don’t like man-made ingredients then this may not be the best product for you.

The Verdict

Will I be repurchasing? Yes. Even though I really want to make the shift to living a completely organic life hunting for products that are all-natural and work to the same effect is extremely rare. I will still continue my hunt for other great natural products, but in the meantime I love this product and Vichy can do no wrong in my eyes!

  • I haven’t tried this BB cream, but I heard good things about it. I am not a big fan of these creams as they are only two or three shades and either one is always too dark for me, haha 🙂 But I will try it next time I go to the drugstore! x

Yeah exactly! It’s so hard to find the right shade. This is great if you’re super pale though. You should definitely see if there’s a tester (even though the ingredients aren’t great the product overall is lol!)

  • I’m dying to get my hands on this! I have tons of base products to go through but this is high on my list to purchase. I do adore Vichy as a brand so fingers crossed that this would work on me.

      Yes! Vichy is wonderful! <3

  • i haven’t tried it but would like to ! I have pretty oily skin so a good mattifying bb cream is brilliant for me. I also really like using bb cream and whenever I’ve used them before I’ve definitely noticed an improvement in my skin 🙂 I don’t know if I’d be okay with the limited shades though because I have extremely pale skin ( seriously I think I might be half vampire… or snowman hehe ) but the last bb cream I had was in light and it was a good shade for me so I’m happy to give anything a go 🙂 I always love these pposts I find it so interesting reading what’s actually in make up !

    Lots of love, Marianne xxx

Haha, that’s the trouble with being so pale! It can be so hard to find the right shade- I guess I lucked out with this! Thanks hun, glad you liked it 🙂

  • I don’t think I’ve tried any Vichy products because I never know what to get but this looks great! Do you have oily skin? I’m way more oily in summer but in winter I’m mostly shiny just along my t-zone so how mattifying is it?

    • lindseyelyse

My skin used to be super oily, but over the winter/ as I’m getting older I find that it can be much more dry. I’d call it a demi-matte, so it will take shine away but leave you looking sort of glowy? I think that’s the best way to describe it; let’s just put it this way. When I used it in the summer I didn’t have to use a powder to set it!

  • I didn’t know this existed; thank you for sharing it! I haven’t tried a lot of vichy but I heard their skincare products deliver good results! Definitely on my to-try brand this year!

    • lindseyelyse

No problem! I love love love love love Vichy products (almost enough to look over some of their high prices!)

  • I haven’t tried this. Ive actually only tried one Vichy product a few years ago. I must admit im not the biggest fan of BB creams, im not sure why really; I just never got into it i guess! Still nice to read about and be inspired 🙂

I didn’t think I’d like BB creams either (to be honest I’ve only tried this one…) but I like it a lot! At least see if you can try the tester to find out!

  • I don’t mind silicones in my makeup too much, they make everything glide on so smoothly and work wonders on your pores.

I must admit, the silicons don’t make me happy to see in the ingredients list… but once it’s on my skin I forget all about them because it works amazingly!

I’ve been wanting to try the Vichy BB Cream for a while, and your review has convinced me to do it. I try to be as organic as possible too, but I’d like to think my tendency to avoid makeup on most days balances out the chemicals from the makeup I sometimes wear lol!

Having similar skin I would love to give this a try as I often find it hard to find foundations/BB/CC creams pale enough for my skin tone 🙁 I’ve heard so much about Vichy before but haven’t ever tried anything from the brand myself! I’m currently using the body shop tea tree BB cream which I consider okay but not the best I’ve tried and you can’t use it alone as it doesn’t give that great coverage I think, unless you have perfect skin 😉 x

I heard about the Body Shop Tea Tree BB cream- I think it’s much more suitable for an oily skin type. And this BB cream definitely does cover redness very well!

  • I think I may need to give this a look at the next time I am in Shoppers. I have never tried anything from Vichy so good to know about.

Yes ! I like BB cream as living in Singapore is hot and there’s a lot of sun! Is it long lasting and does it melt easily? Oh and you can try using the Tony Moly Bcdation? It covers flaws well and they have also added CC cream as well.

    Thanks for sharing!

Do you mind sending over some heat here in Canada!? Haha! For warm weather I found it worked well, but my skintype is rather dry right now so it depends on how oily you get in the heat. I’ve never tried Tony Moly but I’ve heard countless great things about their products, thanks for sharing 🙂
