In case you weren’t already aware, my no buy January isn’t going so well… and I might be a little bit afraid to look at my bank account balance. But hey! I’ve got a lot of stuff to write for the next couple weeks on the blog. (Always look on the positive side! #newyearsresolutions)
Ok, now that I’m done being weird it’s time to show you what I managed to spend nearly $60 on. (My only regret is that this money could have gone toward all-you-can-eat sushi.)
My Mum is the one who introduced me to Nyx quite a few years ago by sending me an eye shadow palette (which I love!), the Creamy Round lipstick in the shade ‘Hades’, which I think is now called ‘Heredes’ and a lip liner pencil in Fuschia…which I never actually used because Fuschia on a ginger looks horrible. Nonetheless the product formulation is amazing and I have loved all of their products.
L-R: Tea Rose, Blush and Embellishment
Nyx Extra Creamy Round Lipstick in “Tea Rose” and “Blush” $7.00 CAD
I’m on the hunt for a nice nude or a MLBB (my lips but better) kind of shade and I instantly fell in love with the colour Tea rose. I think that it’s a perfect wearing makeup but-not-really type of look. Tea Rose is a nice subtle pink shade that would work for every occasion.
I also bought the shade ‘blush’ (mostly to hit the free shipping quota) which is definitely a brighter-pink shade than Tea Rose. I would say that it’s a step-up in terms of giving you that pop of colour, while still keeping within the nude shade range. Again, this is suitable for an everyday look.
Nyx Lip Lingerie in “Embellishment” $9.00 CAD
Someone should have warned me to always look at blogger swatches/ reviews before purchasing lipstick shades online, because this is not the colour I was expecting. It’s a very cool-purple-mauveish shade that would look great on someone who doesn’t have red hair (although it really makes blue eyes pop!) When I tried this on my lips my boyfriend instantly said ‘No, you look like a goth.’ So if that’s not the look you’re going for I’d avoid this and maybe pick up a shade like ‘lace detail.’
In terms of formulation it is ah-mazing. I was able to apply it, let it dry for a few minutes, take a sip of tea and it didn’t smudge at all! I think this is very similar to the colour pop lipsticks. I’ve been wearing it for about 3 hours and it hasn’t faded and my lips aren’t chapped- so I highly recommend it! I am actually going to see if I can find a more nude-pink shade in stores because it’s just that amazing.
Embellishment would be great on a more tanned skin-tone or for a night-out. Also, it looks great on people who have dark hair!
Nyx Wonder Stick in ‘Light’ $14.00 CAD
I have never attempted contouring, so I thought for the price (and to get that free shipping!) I’d try out this simple contouring stick. I tried using it today and I have to admit that it was super simple and weirdly fun drawing clownish-lines all over my face, but I highly doubt I’ll be using this often. It feels light, but leaves a weird greasy texture and I just couldn’t be bothered most days! My cheeks have never looked so defined though, so that’s a plus.
Nyx Pro Multi-Purpose Buffing Brush $17.00 CAD
Definitely one of the pricier brushes in my collection (most of mine are from wal-mart) I decided to pick this up after realizing that I somehow needed to blend the contouring lines into my face. In fact, this brush is super soft and has nice weight to it. It’s one of the better ones I own and it worked really well, nor did it shed.
Overall, I’m pretty content with my purchases. Although I’m kicking myself for picking a colour that doesn’t suit my skin well for the lip lingerie, but you live and you learn!
