Live Clean Suncare Products | Review

Live Clean is a company that many people who are gaining interest in choosing more green and eco-friendly products turn to! When I started out on my green/eco-friendly living journey Live Clean was the first thing I began switching my products to and I’ve had lots of experience with their haircare, hand wash and lotions. This was the first time I had the opportunity to try out their suncare products!

Live Clean Mineral Sunscreen and After Sun Gel

I was graciously sent two of these Live Clean products to test out; the Mineral Sunscreen Lotion and the After Sun Aloe Vera Gel. Today I’m going to be providing my review on each of them.

Live Clean Mineral Sunscreen Lotion $15.99 CAD on Well.ca

The Live Clean Mineral Sunscreen Lotion (SPF 45) provides protection from harmful UVA and UVB rays and was created with sensitive skin in mind. The protection from the UVA/UVB comes from both Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide – two sunscreen ingredients that will not penetrate your pores (which is a good thing!)

The Package says: Naturally Derived, No synthetic Chemicals, Non-Nano, Petrolatum Free, Non-Whitening, Water Resistant (80 minutes), Non-Comedogenic, Silicone Free, Paraben Free, Phthalate Free, Dye Free, Pure Vegan, Gluten Free, Never tested on Animals, Recyclable Packaging, Hypoallergenic, Fragrance Free and Dermatologist tested.

Like most sunscreens, they do state that this should be applied 15 minutes prior to sun exposure and to reapply after swimming or heavy sweating every 80 minutes or every two hours.

Application

Unlike the Alba Botanica Sunscreen which I reviewed last week, I did find that this was a less greasy formula (although multiple reviews say that it does have a greasy application.) You do have to apply small amounts at a time and make sure to really let it sink into the skin otherwise you will be left with a white face. When I applied it I did notice that it does have a rather heavy feeling – you definitely know it is there.

Also unlike the Alba Botanica Sunscreen, when my boyfriend applied this on his face he did not break out into a rash at all. So it is definitely a much better formula for sensitive skin. It wears well even though we didn’t follow the instructions to reapply and we did not get a sunburn. ✔︎

live clean after sun aloe vera gel

Live Clean After Sun Aloe Vera Gel $7.99 CAD on Well.ca

In case you forget to apply your sunscreen and get a wee-bit burnt it’s always good to have some nice cooling aloe vera gel on hand! I know that this was a necessity when we went on vacation in February and it was well-loved. Aloe Vera gel has not actually been shown to minimize the time that it takes to heal from a sunburn, but it does help to relieve the burning pain and keep the burn moisturized. The Live Clean After Sun Aloe Vera Gel is formulated with 98% certified Organic Aloe Vera.

The Package states it is: Plant Derived, Contains Certified Organic Botanicals, Petrolatum Free, Silicone Free, Paraben Free, Phthalate Free, Dye Free, Pure Vegan, Never tested on Animals, Recyclable Packaging, Fragrance Free, Hypoallergenic, Dermatologist Tested, Contains Biodegradable Ingredients.

Application

The Live Clean After Sun Aloe Vera Gel has a somewhat watery consistency but spreads well and doesn’t leave your skin feeling sticky. It absorbs into the skin quickly and definitely leaves your skin feeling super moisturized. It isn’t dyed green like most Aloe Vera gels seem to come for some weird reason? True to the package it also is not fragranced.

Ingredients
Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice*, Glycerin, Arnica Montana Extract*, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract*, Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Leaf Extract*, Lactobacillus/Arundinaria Gigantea Ferment Filtrate, Xanthan Gum, Caesalpiinia Spinosa Gum, Phenoxyethanol, Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Sorbate, Citric Acid. *certified organic.

Non-coloured ingredients note limited information available to properly classify. Natural extracts may be skin irritants.

Conclusion of the Live Clean Suncare Products

Overall, I find that these products are definitely leaning toward the more green/ eco-friendly side of things. I am very happy that neither of these products contain unnecessary fragrance which does seem to be the Live Clean collection’s biggest downfall with their other personal care products (though they do offer unscented products.) Both of the products are effective and do what they are advertised.

If you’re on the hunt for a more natural suncare line it looks like Live Clean’s Mineral sunscreen line includes a few good options!

  • I love Live Clean products! I haven’t tried their sun line though, but will definitely keep them in mind.

    • The Live Clean hand soaps are ah-mazing! It is a good option if you’re looking for a somewhat more natural/green product that is still very effective 🙂

Live Clean has always been my favourite brand to use when it comes to haircare and body wash. I was always hoping they’d come out with a sunscreen! Need to get myself to the store and try this stuff out!

    • Yeah! The Face sunscreen and the other one they have are literally the same ingredients – so you only need to purchase one or the other!

  • This sounds perfect for summer! Thanks for sharing with us =o)

  • I don´t think Live Clean is a brand we get here so I don´t really have an opinion. But I like unscented products when it comes to sunscreen, no need to add more irritants.

    • I think Live Clean is a Canadian brand and they’re slowwwly moving into the U.S. But yes, I’d be surprised if they hopped across the pond anytime soon haha. Unscented is definitely the way to go, you’re absolutely right!

  • I’m interested in the SPF and After Sun. Thanks for linking to well.ca, I know where to get it. http://www.mrsqbeauty.com

  • Wow I haven’t seen these products around before because I usually get my Live Clean products from either Costco or Walmart. I’ll need to take a look at these on my next well.ca purchase! I’ve never really bothered with after suncare products just because I don’t really go tanning or am out in the sun until I burn off, but I see this could be a nice benefit more than I originally thought.

  • Loving the honesty of your review! I also love a bit of aloë vera after sun exposure (though I use a different brand, I’m not really sure if they even sell Live Clean in Belgium), even if I’m not really burnt. It’s just great to get your skin all rehydrated!
